Rous Lench Pig Roast

27th June 2009
As part of the ward visits during my year, Wendy and I were invited to Rous Lench by Cllr.David Lee. This is an annual event held on the green, to raise money for the village hall and the local church.

Wendy heads straight for the plant stall!

People were starting to arrive at 7pm. In a couple of hours the area was packed, eating, pig roast and sausages, drinking local brew and making merry. Buying raffle tickets and taking part in guess the weight of the cake. Later on a local band provided music.

The beautiful church hosted the flower show. The theme, musicals.

A great night and a really good example of the local  residents working together for the benefit of their community

It was  a brilliant day, thanks to all who those who came from all over the country to take part and all who were involved in the organisation, especially Bob James for the guided tour and the James family for the tea and homemade cakes. Mmmmnnn

Rooftop Housing Group Summer Celebration

Eckington Recreational Ground

Guest speaker Jack Hegarty MD Wychavon District Council, outlined the council’s policies to housing.

Guest’s came form all over the area and included representatives from all major housing and care providers. The venue was chosen to highlight the very new development in Eckington as an excellent example of rural development.

During the building process, site works came across ancient remains dating back to Roman times. These remains were fully excavated before completing the building work. An exhibition was available for attendees to view. Most interesting.

Worcestershire County Full Council Meeting

25th June 10am

The first meeting of the new council after the election. I went out of interest to see what went on and how it differed from Wychavon. Outgoing Chairman Alwyn Davies handed over the chain of office to incoming Chairman John Cairns. Cllr. George Lord was reelected as Leader and other cabinet appointments made. A very enjoyable morning.

Worcester City Civic Service

June 21st 10.30am

Prior to the service, guests meet for coffee at Worcester Guildhall

We then process to Worcester Cathedral

At the cathedral the procession parts and waits the arrival of the mayor, who passes through the middle and us and goes to the head of the procession for entry into the Cathedral.

The Mayor of Evesham has to leave in his official car, following the service to attend another engagement

John Martin Memorial Service

Each year a special service is held at St. Andrew’s Church, Hampton, Evesham, to give thanks for the life of John Martin.

After the service in the church, the congregation gather outside to witness the laying of a wreath at the grave of John Martin.
